What Is The Advantage Of Fourth

Fourth-generation testing can screen for and confirm HIV infection in several hours instead of weeks, allows for identification of very early HIV infection, and eliminates the indeterminate Western blot results that could take up to three to six months to confirm.15 Persons at high risk can be retested within three weeks of potential exposure. Identification of acute HIV infection allows for prevention of new infections through risk reduction counseling, earlier intervention with CART, and partner notification.7 Fourth-generation testing costs more per sample than previous algorithms; however, preliminary cost-effectiveness studies on fourth-generation testing in high-incidence areas found benefits of increased case identification, reduced transmission, and increased quality-adjusted life years.22

The precise reason for a biological false-positive result in any individual specimen is not likely to be definitively known. A few of the causes hypothesized in the medical literature include recent administration of selected vaccines, presence of HLA-DR antibodies, presence of rheumatoid factors, reactive RPR, hypergammaglobulinemia, cross-reactive immune response to other exogenous and endogenous retroviruses, and autoimmune conditions.

Although there are occasional biological false-positive results observed with HIV screening tests, as with all screening tests, the specificities of the FDA-approved HIV screening tests are very high . The potential adverse effects of a biological false-positive screening test result are ameliorated by use of this CDC-recommended multi-step testing algorithm. Test results are only considered to support the diagnosis of HIV infection when the screening test results are repeatedly reactive and either supplemental test is positive.5

How Much Earlier Can A Diagnosis Be Made With Fourth

The window period is from initial HIV infection until any laboratory test detects HIV. Fourth-generation testing incorporates HIV-1/HIV-2 antibody and p24 antigen detection; therefore, the window period can be as early as 15 to 17 days .16 Using fourth-generation testing, HIV-1 infection can be diagnosed within two to three weeks of risk exposure.16 Qualitative HIV-1 nucleic acid amplification tests and HIV-1 viral load tests are positive around day 10 to 12; however, these tests are not typically used for screening purposes. A rapid finger stick blood-based test that detects and differentiates HIV-1/HIV-2 antibodies and HIV-1 p24 antigen has recently been approved by the FDA.21

About Our Hiv 4th Generation Duo Antigen/antibody Test

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus is an incurable sexually transmitted disease that attacks immune cells in the body.

The recommended minimum window period for the HIV 4th Generation Test is:

The 4th generation HIV test is an antigen/antibody test. What Is The 4th Generation Hiv Test

The fourth generation HIV test, also called an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay test, is a more complete screening that can identify acute HIV. This is the time when the virus is multiplying rapidly and youre more likely to pass the infection.

In the first few weeks after exposure to HIV, your body produces an antigen known as p24. This protein is only present in people who have acute HIV infection. It triggers your immune system to respond.

The fourth generation tests can identify both HIV-specific antigen p24 and HIV antibodies with a blood sample.

Difference Between A 3rd Generation And A 4th Generation Hiv Test
