EXCLUSIVE: Will Smith made offensive remarks about AIDS sufferers and the LGBTQ community in a historic track

  • 11:04, 25 JAN 2020

The Fresh Prince of Bel Air star Will Smith can be heard making offensive comments about AIDS victims and members of the LGBTQ community in unearthed footage.

The remarks come to light after son Jaden was praised for his own open and forward-thinking attitude to sexuality and gender.

In the footage, which dates back to the late 80s, Will Smith, 51, could be heard making vile slurs during a set with fellow musician DJ Jazzy Jeff.

Smith said: “All the filthy stinking nasty people be quiet. All the homeboys that got AIDS be quiet. All the girls out there that don’t like guys be quiet.”

The track appears on the hip hop duo’s album He’s The DJ.I’m the Rapper, which was released in 1988.

Jeff Ingold, Head of Media Engagement at the gay rights organisation Stonewall has spoken out against the remarks in a statement to Daily Star Online.

He said: “While these comments are historic, we know homophobic, biphobic and transphobic attitudes and language, along with stigma facing people living with HIV, are still very real issues in today’s society.

LGBTQ rights activist Peter Tatchell has similarly blasted the comments, though he pointed out that The Fresh Prince’s youth could be partially to blame for the historic slurs.

Billy Porter And Adam Smith Are Breaking The Stigma Around Hiv

The myths and misconceptions around HIV can make people hesitant to enter a relationship with an HIV-positive person but Porter challenges the stereotypes.

Porter revealed that, with the help of regular doctors visits, he is able to manage his diagnosis.

My T-cell levels are twice yours because of this medication, he said, referring to immune system cells that are attacked by HIV.

And, importantly, his husband has not been directly impacted by the diagnosis.

Im completely undetectable. Thats the amazing part of the developments, Porter said.

The supportive couple have maintained solidarity through Porters HIV journey but wed expect nothing less of these two.

Tries To Persuade Police

The woman said she had a difficult time trying to persuade police to investigate. They told her that because Smith wasn’t diagnosed until after their relationship ended, they could not press charges.

Undeterred, the woman continued her campaign to stop Smith, spreading the word that he is HIV positive. She made contact with another woman Smith had seen and urged her to come forward.

She said she’s still working through her emotions on the entire experience.

“I feel I won’t be able to move the next step of my life until I have at least forgiven him,” she said.

The woman said she will be in court later this month when Smith is sentenced.

Billy Porter Reveals He’s Hiv Positive

Actor Billy Porter revealed on Wednesday that he is HIV positive. The 51-year-old opened up about his diagnoses in the Hollywood Reporter, sharing his personal story publicly for the first time.

Porter said he was diagnosed with HIV in June 2007. Over the next 14 years, he won Emmy, Grammy and Tony Awards and now stars on the FX series “Pose,” where he portrays Pray Tell, an HIV-positive character.

The drama about drag ball culture in the 1980s and 1990s follows African American and Latino LGBTQ characters at the height of the AIDS epidemic.

He said in portraying the character, he was able to say everything he wanted to say “through a surrogate.” No one involved with “Pose” knew Porter was drawing from his own life.

“Having lived through the plague, my question was always, ‘Why was I spared? Why am I living?,'” Porter told journalist Lacey Rose. “Well, I’m living so that I can tell the story,” he said. “So it’s time to put my big boy pants on and talk.”

Porter said at the time he was diagnosed, he was getting tested for HIV every six months “like you were supposed to,” but he was still shocked when the doctor told him he tested positive.

“For a long time, everybody who needed to know, knew except for my mother,” Porter said. “I was trying to have a life and a career, and I wasn’t certain I could if the wrong people knew.” He said his HIV would be another way people could discriminate against him.

How Ryan Murphy Inspired Billy Porters New Movie

HIV

Billy Porter revealed hes HIV-positive in his new cover story for The Hollywood Reporter.

The Pose star, 51, said he was diagnosed in June 2007 and kept it a secret for years from nearly everyone, including his mother.

I was trying to have a life and a career, and I wasnt certain I could if the wrong people knew, Porter said. It would just be another way for people to discriminate against me in an already discriminatory profession.

The Broadway star, who is just an Oscar away from becoming an EGOT winner, called 2007 his worst year, as he already had been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and signed bankruptcy papers.

The shame of that time compounded with the shame that had already in my life silenced me, and I have lived with that shame in silence for 14 years, he said.

HIV-positive, where I come from, growing up in the Pentecostal church with a very religious family, is Gods punishment.

Porter, who relocated to Long Island with husband Adam Smith amid the pandemic, credited quarantine with forcing him to face his lifes traumas, including the sexual abuse he endured from ages 7 to 12 at the hands of his stepfather.

There has never been a moment that Ive not been in trauma, which is what Ive discovered this last year, he said. And it was my engine for a very long time. My trauma served me, my story has served me, in terms of forward motion.

That was five years ago. She aint going anywhere.

I love you no matter what, he said she told him.

Disclosure Health Services And Health Providers

The influence of health services on disclosure has not been systematically examined, but we can piece together information on 3 interrelated questions: first, whether staff at health facilities contribute to reducing stigma and discrimination, thus normalizing HIV second, whether they encourage disclosure by HIV-positive persons and promote testing and referral of partners and family members and third, whether they are prepared to counsel and support those who are tested, to facilitate voluntary disclosure and support.

Another indication of how disclosure is linked to health services comes from studies that examined its connection with adherence to antiretroviral therapy. Initiatives to provide antiretroviral therapy sometimes require that patients disclose to a supportive individual in their network, on the basis of a large body of evidence indicating that disclosure facilitates initiation of and adherence to antiretroviral therapy, whereas worries about disclosure contribute to secrecy and missed medications., Most studies on the subject focus on adherence, and more information is needed about the process of disclosure when it is a condition for antiretroviral therapy.

I’m Hiv Positive Says Chris Smith

Former Labour cabinet minister Chris Smith has been HIV positive for 17 years, but did not tell Tony Blair when he was appointed Culture Secretary in 1997.

Smith, 53, the first openly gay cabinet member in British history, said he was inspired to go public after comments by the former South African president, Nelson Mandela, about his son, who died of Aids this month.

He said he had not felt it necessary to inform the Prime Minister of the infection because it did not affect his ability to do his job.

Smith has been MP for Islington South and Finsbury in London since 1983 and was feted for his courage when he came out as gay a year later.

He was diagnosed with HIV – the virus which can develop into Aids – in 1987, shortly before meeting his long-term partner Dorian Jabri, though he did not know how long he had been carrying the virus.

When he developed the disease, public fear and prejudice about the illness was at its height, and drugs to halt the progress of the condition were in the early stages of development.

Smith said he ‘was lucky’ that soon after his diagnosis he was put onto anti-retroviral drugs, which helped to halt the progress of the virus and prevented it from developing into Aids itself. ‘When I first heard about it, I was really worried because there was hardly any treatment, but I was lucky and fairly early on I was put on AZT and later on to a combination of drugs,’ he wrote in the Sunday Times.

‘It was the uncertainty which clearly has an effect.’

Levels And Patterns Of Disclosure

summarizes the results of studies on levels and patterns of disclosure in general as well as disclosure to specific categories of people, such as sexual partners, family members, and friends. Overall, a striking finding of this review was that the majority of people disclosed their HIV status to someone. The levels of reported disclosure to anyone, as shown in , ranged mostly from about two thirds to about three fourths of respondents, with a few lower rates in sub-Saharan Africa. Three studies explicitly refered to involuntary disclosure, but the rest were concerned with voluntary disclosure exist, suggesting that most people willingly disclosed their HIV status.

Stage : Acute Hiv Infection

Stage 1 of the HIV infection is known as acute HIV infection. At this stage, the immune system attempts to attack the virus by producing HIV antibodies. This process is called seroconversion.

Seroconversion usually takes place within a few weeks of infection. These antibodies will stick around and remain detectable for many years.

As a result, someone who is living with HIV will continue to test positive on HIV tests. That is true even if their viral load is undetectable.

Within two to four weeks of being infected, those with HIV may experience:

  • Fever

Symptoms may be absent in some people, however.

What You Need To Know About Fungal Infections

National Book Award Finalist Danez Smith Discusses Writing ...

Your CD4 count is important. Youre at greatest risk for fungal infection when your CD4 count is less than 200. Keeping your CD4 count above 200 may help you avoid serious illness.

Anti-retroviral therapy is important. Starting ART helps slow the progress of HIV and can reduce your chances of getting a fungal infection.

Fungal infections can range from mild to life-threatening. Some fungal infections are mild skin rashes, but others can be deadly, like fungal meningitis. Because of this, its important to seek treatment as soon as possible to try to avoid serious infection.

Fungal infections can look like bacterial or viral infections. If youre taking medicine to fight an infection and you arent getting better, ask your doctor about testing you for a fungal infection.

Where you live matters. Some disease-causing fungi are more common in certain parts of the world. If you have HIV/AIDS and live in or visit these areas, youre more likely to get these infections than the general population.1 For more information on travel related illnesses, please see the CDC Travelers Health site.

Your activities matter. Disease-causing fungi can be found in air, dust, and soil, especially soil that contains bird or bat droppings. Doing activities that disturb the soil, like gardening, cleaning chicken coops, construction, demolition, and visiting caves can cause you to inhale more fungi and increases your chance of infection.2

Over 600 People Test Hiv Positive In Pakistan City

Islamabad – Pakistan said on Sunday over 600 people, most of them children, had tested HIV positive in a city in the southern Sindh province.

Concern grew after hundreds of people were allegedly infected by a doctor using a contaminated syringe in Rato Dero city and surrounding villages of Larkana district.

“Some 681 people, of which 537 were children from two to 12 years of age, had been tested positive for HIV until yesterday in Rato Dero,” special health advisor Zafar Mirza told a press conference in Islamabad.

He said 21,375 people had been screened in Rato Dero, adding that the increase in the number of patients testing positive for HIV was “a matter of grave concern” for the government.

One cause being investigated by Pakistani authorities is the use of “unsafe syringes” on patients.

Mirza said: “Initial investigations reveal that used syringes are being re-packed, which may not only grow significantly the number of HIV cases but also other diseases.”

The federal government is providing 50,000 HIV screening kits to Sindh.

– ‘Drastic measures’ –

Provincial health officials have also noted that patients are at particular risk of contracting diseases or viruses at these clinics, where injections are often pushed as a primary treatment option.

“Prime Minister Imran Khan is going to unveil drastic measures to prevent the disease once we ascertain the cause of the spread of disease,” he said.

“Four of the children of my village have already been diagnosed HIV positive.”

Scientists Believe Woman With Hiv May Be Cured

An Argentinian woman has become the second woman in the world whose body was able to rid itself of HIV.

The Esperanza patient as she is being referred to as first tested positive for the virus in 2013. Daily Mail reports that she did not take any medication to treat the virus. She did however take ARVs for the first six months of her pregnancy.

She now has a child and boyfriend who are HIV negative.

Eight years later and the virus is now undetectable in her system something scientists are very excited about and think may help them find the cure sooner.

The announcement was first made in March this year by Harvard-based medics at a major international meeting of HIV experts. According to the medics, she had no intact virus left in her system.
